About Me

I am Karina Winkler, a geographer and doctoral researcher in affiliation with Wageningen University WUR and the KIT – Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research Atmospheric Environmental Research (IMK-IFU). Located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and surrounded by the Bavarian Alps, I work on my PhD project about reconstructing and understanding the processes of global land use change. I am interested in

  • how to use and harmonise Open Data for answering questions on land surface dynamics.
  • analysing and learning about the processes, drivers and impacts of global land use change.
  • Open Science: transferring knowledge into action by reaching people outside science (building web maps, videos and other stuff).

Aside from science, I am engaged in local politics, environmental activism and love to go hiking, climbing and skiing in the mountains.
